Industry analysts suggest that some publishers may not be able to make their debt payments as advertising revenues slip. Companies like Tribune, MediaNews Group, Journal Register, and Morris Publishing Group may default on billions of dollars in debt if they do not find new revenues, possibly through selling off assets. Many of these companies may be forced to restructure or go into bankruptcy as debts mount.
A consortium of Belgium newspaper groups has gone to the country's courts to pursue a settlement from Google. Copiepresse is asking for between €32.8 and €49.1 million from Google the lawsuit over Google's publishing of links to the newspapers' content online. In 2007, a Belgium court rules against Google, saying it had violated copyright laws by publishing links without permission.
